Music Notes

Floating across the page
Dancing in the breeze
Musical musical notes
Skinny white lines
Like the cracks in the sidewalk
Decorated with green gumballs
Creating something so beautiful
Simple of complex
Something so emotional
Feelings can just explode
It skips across the lines
Like children jumping rope
It is all strung together
Like beads on a string
What comes from all this
Something so powerful
Words cannot describe

Silence

Silent walk
Around the blocks
Many things unseen
People always going
No time to observe
Fractured yellow curb
Encasing shattered sidewalk
Crusty crinkled mud patches
Footprints stamped in
Cement dirty and damaged
Paint yellow as a school bus
Warning of cracks and ridges
Debris is scattered about
Clouds wear angry faces
Storm is brewing
Rain will fall
Wash away some dirt
Chip off more paint
The walk around the block
Will never be the same
Many things still unseen

Water Molecules

A single drop of water
Carries many meanings
Bright, cold water balloons
Hot, humid day
Dropping from the clouds
Memories of loss
Outside it's raining gumballs
Cool and fresh
Penetrating everything
Pelting fast and furious
Piter-patter, Splish-splash
Earthy clean
Steam rising from black asphalt
Drops shatter
A single drop of water
Carries many meanings
Running from above
Yummy sweet popsicles
Dripping and oozing
Streaming from up high
Sad dead memories
Dumping tears
Trickling rain
Descending on earth
Dumping tears
God releasing energy
One droplet of water
Accompanied by many
Cascading upon the land

The Trick

The giving black slender tramp
Seemed to run for miles and miles
I stand ready at one end
The action potential streaking down the axon
Carrying my coach's words
My eyes were locked and ready
On the bright pink chalk mark
Like a hungry eagles eyes
Locked on a flopping fish
Where I was to hurdle
The launching point
My eyes were locked and focused
On the straight white line
Dividing the track in two
The taste of fear filling my mouth
Irony and metallicy all together
My bright blue peppermint gum
Masked by its taste of fear
The smell of the sweaty sticky mats
Added to the sickening flavor
I began to run
Holding in every ounce of air
Faintly I could hear encouragement
But my pounding hammering heart
Drowned out most noise
As my feet impacted the bed
It gave from all my power
I hit the bright pink chalk mark
My hands encountered the black bed
The action potential froze in their places
A chalk cloud arose
The earthy dry sent
Invading my nostrils
My feet hit and muscles screamed
Ready to push out pounds of power
Blindly now my hands touched again
My eyes were wide open
But I saw absolutely nothing
My feet pummeled downwards
More muscles shrieked
They needed more power
I flew into the air
Like a rocket off a launch pad
The blood red mat lay far below me
So far it looked dollhouse size
I yanked my arms in close
Like a turtle pulling into its shell
The world around me blurred
As I spun round and round
Then the red mat was coming fast
My clenched muscles tightened
They knew the mat was approaching
My feet hit first, my knees bent
The mat stopped coming closer
I stuck it!

Dream Deferred

What happens to a dream deferred?

Does it dry up
Like a raisin in the sun?
Or fester like a sore-
And then run?
Does it stink like rotten meat?
Or crust and sugar over-
Like a syrup Sweet

Maybe it just sags
Like a heavy load.

Or does it explode?

Langston Hughes (1902-1976)

Twinkle Twinkle

Glittering speckle of light
I silently asked myself
Flying high up in the sky
Like a jewel way up high
Tiny glittering gleam
I silently asked myself

So Much Depends Upon...

So much depends
Upon
Blue cool
Pools
Frosted in
Ice
In evening
Dusk
